Another great new development for the 2020 Water Social Bonus contained in the Resolution no. 3/2020/R/Idr of ARERA.
The calculation of the Social Water Bonus recognised on bills for low-income households, which for 2018 and 2019 was only carried out on the aqueduct component, it also extends to cubic metres for Sewage and Purification.
This means that “statistically” the total amount of the Water Social Bonus would go to affect one third of the total amount of the water bill, increasing the savings that low-income families can achieve by applying the Water Bonus.
In fact, on average, a family of three consumes around 150 cubic metres of water per year. Since the
subsidy bracket for a family with three members amounts to 55 cubic metres per year (18.25 cubic metres per year per family member), the amount deducted from the first 55 cubic metres consumed annually by the family will not only cover the water supply tariff but also the sewage and purification tariffs.
The flip side of the coin is that, also since 2020, the UI3 equalization component, of 0.5 euro cents per cubic metre, will calculated also on the cubic metres invoiced for sewerage and purification, as well as to the cubic metres of the Aqueduct as was done for 2018 and 2019
This important development is in addition to the readjustment of the ISEE threshold for Bonus eligibility, which, as anticipated in the previous article, increases from a maximum threshold of €8,107.50 to a maximum threshold of 8,265 euros, a limit that rises to 20,000 euros if you have more than 3 dependent children, and these are the same conditions required to benefit from the electricity and gas bonus.
The request for the Social Water Bonus must be submitted to your municipality or through CAF (patronage offices) and must be submitted together with the request for the Electric and Gas Bonus.
