The transition to a circular economy model today requires an integrated approach, capable of combining technological innovation, territorial governance, and active community participation.
In this context, the new Collaboration between Sikuel, a company of the Maggioli Group, and Legambiente Sicilia, initiated within the framework of the seventh edition of the project “Sicily is a free sieve.
An initiative aimed at strengthening a virtuous model of waste management in Sicilian territories, promoting information, awareness, and the dissemination of best practices.
Sequel to Legambiente Sicily: for sustainable waste management
The agreement stems from the shared desire to contribute to the spread of a environmental awareness culture, with particular attention to the quality of separate waste collection, the reduction of landfill disposal, and the valorisation of secondary raw materials.
This is therefore a concrete commitment to promotion of best practices and in the construction of a continuous dialogue between institutions, industry operators, businesses and citizens, which Sikuel pursues with determination and foresight.
The project “Sicily Clean Free”: heading towards a circular supply chain
Now in its seventh edition, “Sicilia Munnizza Free” represents one of the main regional programmes dedicated to waste system transformation.
The goal is not just to increase separate waste collection percentages, but to improve its quality, intervening across the entire supply chain:
- development of the systems, in particular for the organic fraction
- Enhancement of strategic supply chains (textile, WEEE, wood, absorbent products)
- Promotion of reuse and recycling
- overall waste reduction
At the heart of the project is a key principle: to build a system where all players in the territory should be protagonists, overcoming structural criticalities and promoting integrated and sustainable management.
Local activities and initiatives
Delving into the specifics of the program, a comprehensive calendar of regional and provincial initiatives is planned, such as EcoForums, which involve different levels of the territory and represent opportunities for discussion between administrations, companies, and sector operators.
Alongside these institutional moments, training courses are planned for local technicians and administrators, with the aim of supporting the correct application of regulations and identifying concrete solutions for improving waste management.
Environmental education activities in schools and awareness campaigns aimed at citizens also play a central role. Volunteer and information initiatives help to strengthen collective awareness and promote virtuous behaviour, which are fundamental for the functioning of a truly circular system.
The role of Sikuel: technology and support for the territories
Within this path, Sikuel contributes by making its know-how available in the digitalisation of public services and data management.
The aim is to support the territories not only through technological tools but also by promoting an approach data-driven to waste cycle management, capable of making performance measurable and guiding decisions.
In a context where regulatory and operational complexity is constantly increasing, technology is indeed a fundamental enabler for improving service efficiency and concretely supporting the transition towards a circular economy.
“Direct commitment to creating a circular economy requires appropriate tools, but also a shared vision among all actors in the system” – comments Giovanni Corso, Sales Manager Sikuel.
“Through this collaboration, we aim to help build increasingly effective management models, supporting territories not only with our IT solutions, but also by promoting culture, awareness and participation.”
Legambiente Sicily's commitment
The Sicilia Munnizza Free project is part of a much larger initiative that Legambiente Sicilia has been implementing for some time to make the island more attentive and responsible towards correct environmental practices.
“With the Sicilia Munnizza Free project – intervenes in fact Tommaso Castronovo, President of Legambiente Sicily – we shall continue our commitment to supporting the path undertaken by hundreds of virtuous administrations, their citizens and dozens of industry operators in waste recycling management, with the aim of raising the standards and performances achieved.
It is essential to create links and promote synergies between supply chains, businesses, administrations, and citizens to move beyond the concept of waste and rapidly head towards a circular economy.”
Towards more aware communities and more efficient systems
The collaboration between Sikuel and Legambiente Sicilia is part of a context where technology, governance and participation they become complementary elements, thus guiding territories towards increasingly advanced waste management, capable of generating environmental, economic, and social value over time.
