The digitalisation of the waste sector is entering a new crucial phase. As of 31 December 2025 A major deadline is fast approaching for many businesses: All motor vehicles of companies registered in Category 5 of the National Register of Environmental Managers, carrying hazardous special waste, will have to be equipped with geolocation systems and declare it via self-declaration on the AGEST portal.
An obligation that requires technological adaptation, administrative precision, and punctual management of information flows.
And this is precisely where our digital solution K-TARIP it can make the difference, thanks to the integrated RENTRi module and its features developed to support public bodies and businesses in all phases of regulatory compliance.
But before I explain to you in detail how, let's take a step back and briefly explain what RENTRi is.
RENTRi: A decisive step towards traceability and sustainability
The National Electronic Register for Waste Traceability is the core of the reform introduced by DM 59/2023, designed to make waste management more transparent, digital, and secure throughout the entire supply chain.
This is a unique national platform that, through digital registers, up-to-date traceability, and interoperability with management software, aims to definitively overcome the fragmentation of paper-based tools and previous procedures.
In practice, it means:
- more orderly and coherent management of environmental data;
- reduction of errors related to paper forms;
- faster communication;
- A digital ecosystem that supports the entire supply chain, from operators to hauliers, right through to the plants.

So, let's come to the impending deadline of 31 December: what happens and for whom is it valid?
The 31 December 2025 deadline: what do Category 5 businesses need to do
According to ministerial resolution 3/2024, by 31 December 2025 companies that transport hazardous special waste will have to:

The devices must comply with the technical specifications identified by the Directorate Decree no. 253/2024, including:
- Unique device ↔ registration plate ↔ chassis association;
- route recording via geographical coordinates;
- export data in standard format;
- Displaying routes using computerised tools.
Excluded:
- motor vehicles;
- motor vehicles which, although registered in Category 5, transport non-hazardous waste only.
- Attest the presence of systems via self-declaration AGEST
By 31 December 2025 at the latest, they must transmit exclusively online the relevant self-declaration, which is for all intents and purposes a Technical eligibility requirement provided for by Article 11 of DM 120/2014.
