Glass collection: how K-Tarip simplifies life and improves service. The Ortigia case.

Book glass collection with a simple click and check the correct emptying of the container. It's all possible thanks to our K-Tarif platform che, tra the functionalities it offers, also guarantees the possibility for citizens of Municipalities that have activated the service to request glass collection from home in a simple and fast way. It all happens via the App: the user sends the request, receives an SMS with the indicated time slot for collection, and is then updated on the actual emptying of the container.

A convenient system for users, who no longer have to worry about fixed times or full bins, and at the same time extremely advantageous for those managing the service, because:

  • allows for better organisation of requests, keeping workload volumes under control;
  • allows for planning withdrawals in time slots, making operators' work more efficient;
  • Optimises vehicle routes, reducing journey times, costs and environmental impact.

The Ortigia experience: a successful test

Summer 2024 saw a successful case study in Syracuse, specifically in Ortigia. The municipality of Syracuse, in collaboration with CoReVe and various operational partners, experimentally launched a new glass collection system, alongside the ordinary one, which involved bars, restaurants, hotels, and B&Bs in the historic centre. The project, launched with the campaign “Stasera mi butti… nel contenitore giusto” (Tonight you throw me... in the right container), offered an on-demand glass collection system via an app that allowed HoReCa users to request the collection of glass containers in real-time, even twice a day, directly from their smartphones. The system was integrated with wheeled bins equipped with RFID tags and a mobile collection station managed by an operator with an electric vehicle, for an efficient and low-impact service. The advantages were several: first, maintaining urban decorum and cleanliness in the busiest streets; combating the phenomenon of littering and overflowing bins outside of hours; and finally, ensuring more optimised work for the operators.

The project helped Syracuse receive an important recognition from CoReVe, the Glass Recovery Consortium, which awarded the Municipality as one of the most virtuous in Italy for separate glass collection.

An experience that confirmed how technology, when well-designed and applied methodically, can be a concrete lever for improving the efficiency of public services and the quality of urban life.
