The ecological transition also passes through small gestures. And proximity composting – carried out at a condominium, business or community level – is one of the most effective ways to reduce the amount of organic waste to be managed and to make valuable use of it on-site, a precious resource: the wet fraction.
With the DDG n. 570 of 8 May 2025, the Sicilian Region has approved a public notice for the Granting of incentives to support local composting activities of organic waste, funded by the’Action 2.6.1 of the ERDF RRF 2021-2027. A concrete opportunity for Municipalities, Elgato, SRR and other public bodies wishing to start, expand or enhance these activities.

Who is the call for proposals aimed at?
They can apply:
- the Elgato (Optimal Territorial Scope Government Bodies);
- i Sicilian Municipalities (also in associative form).
What interventions does it fund?
The aim is to reduce the production of organic waste through local composting systems. Considered are Eligible operations:
- Purchase and installation of electromechanical composters o community, to be used in residential buildings, schools, canteens, small communities or farms;
- Building and engineering works for the arrangement of composting areas (fencing, flooring, electrical installations, drainage, etc.);
- Equipment purchase functional for the management of organic waste, in particular the purchase and installation of mobile equipment, machinery and apparatus strictly connected to the start-up/implementation and management of composting activities, as well as for infrastructural adjustments (community composting facilities, local proximity plants, hardware equipment and software solutions for managing the production cycle and use of compost, mechanical means for the composting plant's use, excluding road transport vehicles, etc.);
- Technical expenses for design, site supervision, testing and safety;
- Communication, information and training interventions addressed to the users involved.
How much does it fund
The Total funding of the notice amounts to €15 million, to be applied to Action 2.6.1 of the ERDF Sicily 2021-2027 PR.
The grant awarded can cover up to 100% of eligible expenditure (The maximum amount for each proposal for each Project must not exceed €450,000.00). It No stacking with other public funding for the same activities or expenses.
How to participate
The instances must be submitted by The 90th day following the date of publication of this Notice by extract in the Official Gazette of the Sicilian Region, via PEC to the address dipartimento.acqua.rifiuti@certmail.regione.sicilia.it, indicating which item: “PUBLIC NOTICE Act 2.6.1 – PR ERDF 2021/2027” and attaching all the documentation required by the notice.
The selection is made by assessing compliance with the formal admissibility, eligibility, evaluation and award requirements.
